美国电影艺术与科学学院于2006年底发布了第79届官方宣传海报，整幅海报的背景布满了历年奥斯卡获奖影片中的经典台词（共75句），而海报正中就是无数电影人向往的奥斯卡小金人。

美国电影艺术与科学学院（AMPAS）主席悉德·甘尼斯（Sid Ganis）认为这些台词现在已经变成人们日常生活用语的一部分了，他说：“它们都是些让人们无法忘掉的台词，现在你仍可以在各种场合听到人们使用它们，开会时、聚会时、走在大街上……这些足以表达我们对于这些东西的感受。如果一部电影有1000句台词的话，每一句这样的经典台词至少相当于500句台词。”

海报选用的台词是由学院董事会成员和其他成员共同敲定的。所有敲定的台词——只有一句除外——均来自自1936年——2005年间获得过奥斯卡“最佳影片”或“最佳编剧”提名的影片；同一部影片有两句对白同时入选的只有1996年的《甜心先生》(Jerry Maguire)。学院代表称，75句对白中之含有一句台词出自一部并未获得提名的影片，这是为影迷准备的一个猜谜游戏，让影迷们找出这部“另类台词”。

海报由洛杉矶TBWA\Chiat\Day广告公司设计，海报上的奥斯卡雕像由Albert Watson摄影。

人们最终将要看到的海报长和宽分别是40英寸和27英寸，用回收纸制成的纸张印刷而成，背景选用的是一块黑色帆布，所选用的台词均由黄金色金属墨水写成，以达到更为突出的效果。学院向全世界发行的海报数量超过6.5万张，2007年3月12日之前你都可以拨打电话1-800-554-1814或者在网上购买（http://www.oscars.org/publications/）。

第79届奥斯卡提名将在2007年1月23日（周二）凌晨5:30公布，颁奖典礼将于2007年2月25日（周日）在好莱坞高地的柯达剧院举行，之前会有名为“The Road to the Oscars”的半个小时的红地毯电视节目。
